HOME RENOVATIONS SAVINGS - FAQ
A home energy assessment is required prior to starting work on heat pump water heaters, windows, doors, insulation (including attic, wall, foundation, and exposed floor), and air sealing. Additionally, at least two of these upgrades must be installed to be eligible for the rebates.
The different parts of your home work together and affect how well each one performs. For example, without good air sealing, new insulation won’t keep air from escaping. A home energy assessment can show you the best ways to save energy. We suggest following your energy advisor’s advice on which upgrades will make your home more efficient and comfortable.
A home energy assessment is a thorough evaluation of your home’s energy use and efficiency. An experienced professional inspects your home to identify areas where energy is wasted, such as leaks, poor insulation, or inefficient appliances. They will also check things like air sealing, windows, doors, and heating or cooling systems. After the assessment, you will receive recommendations on how to improve your home’s energy efficiency, which can help save money on energy bills and make your home more comfortable.
On average, the initial home energy assessment take roughly two hours to complete. The follow-up assessment takes about an hour.
Homeowners are responsible for paying the initial and follow-up home energy assessments. To help reduce these costs, you can receive a $600 rebate after installing at least two of the recommended upgrades identified during the initial assessment through the Home Renovation Savings program.
Once you have completed your follow-up home energy assessment, and your advisor submits all the required documentation, your rebate cheque should arrive by mail within 60 days. It is important that you make sure you have your correct email and mailing address submitted when you register.
